v1.2.0

Live June 15, 2026
Android

Premium launches on Android — local AI voices, MP3 export, offline queue.

Added

  • ThreadCast Premium — Monthly $4.99 · Yearly $39 · Lifetime $99 (first 100 lifetime purchases at $69 launch promo)
  • Local AI neural voices on mobile — Lite, Plus, and Studio engines unlock with a Premium license; all synthesis stays on-device
  • MP3 audio export — turn any Reddit thread into a shareable podcast file. Saves to Downloads/ThreadCast/ with ID3 tags, album art, and a friendly filename
  • In-app library player — play exported MP3s inside ThreadCast with lock-screen and Bluetooth controls, prev/next track buttons, and a persisted auto-advance toggle
  • Offline queue (free) — queued posts and their comments save to your phone automatically so playback works on the subway, plane, or anywhere without signal
  • Auto-prune setting (off by default) — automatically remove queued posts older than 7, 30, or 90 days
  • License activation via threadcast://activate deep-link from the purchase confirmation email

Changed

  • All three AI neural engines (Lite, Plus, Studio) on mobile now require a Premium license. System voices remain free.
  • Engine picker shows lock icons for free users on AI tiers; tapping a locked tier opens the paywall sheet

v1.2.0

Live June 10, 2026
Chrome Extension

A fourth voice engine, a native side panel, and a rebuilt settings experience.

Added

  • AI Neural GPU Lite — a fourth voice engine. A compact neural voice model running on WebGPU with five English accents: lighter to download and quicker to run than the full AI Neural GPU engine, and a clear step up from the CPU engine. Fully on-device.
  • Native Chrome side panel — pop the player out into Chrome's side panel and keep listening with full controls while you browse
  • Start playback from any open Reddit tab — press play in the popup and ThreadCast reads the Reddit thread you already have open; an 'Open Reddit' invite appears if there isn't one
  • Parked queue — set threads aside in a saved-for-later list, separate from the active queue
  • Custom ambient sounds — add your own audio to sleep mode alongside the 10 built-in tracks (parity with the mobile app)
  • Now-playing highlight — the post or comment being read is highlighted on the page as playback moves through the thread
  • Getting-started sheet — a short first-run guide to the engines, queue, and sleep mode

Changed

  • Four voice engines now: System, AI Neural CPU, AI Neural GPU Lite, AI Neural GPU
  • Rebuilt Settings page — mobile-parity design with a theme picker and per-engine cards, plus live theme sync across the popup, side panel, and settings
  • Reworked popup player and playback lifecycle for steadier state across tabs and windows
  • Reader and Settings now reuse their existing tab instead of opening a duplicate
  • Extension version aligned to 1.2 — one ThreadCast version line across the extension and the apps

Fixed

  • Seeking mid-playback on GPU Lite no longer freezes the player (model runs are now serialized)
  • GPU Lite playback state now propagates correctly to the controls
  • 'Read this page' permission prompt fixed
  • Quieted benign WebGPU log noise on the extensions page

v1.1.1

Live May 30, 2026
Android

Engine diagnostics, a leaner build, and landscape polish.

Added

  • Voice engine diagnostics in Settings — tap any AI voice engine for a quick health check (speed, thermal headroom, and memory) with color-coded readouts

Changed

  • Smaller download and faster startup
  • Sleep banner now uses the brand accent color

Fixed

  • Mini-player and sleep banner now render correctly in all landscape layouts

v1.1.0

Live May 26, 2026
Android

AI Plus voices, landscape mode, user profiles, and saved posts.

Added

  • AI Plus voice engine — eight new on-device voices in a single 26 MB download, sitting between AI Lite and AI Studio in size and quality
  • Landscape mode on every tab — Feed, Subreddits, Post detail, and Settings all switch to a split-view master-detail layout on tablets and unfolded foldables
  • User profiles — tap any author name to see their posts and comments, with follow support
  • Saved posts — bookmark icon in the post header saves posts to a new section in the Subreddits tab
  • Infinite scroll on feeds and profile pages
  • Native share sheet, swipeable galleries, and Reddit video playback in fullscreen with Picture-in-Picture

Fixed

  • Pinch-to-zoom on images
  • Foldable layout transitions no longer leave stale viewport caching when crossing the cover-to-inner-screen boundary

v1.0.1

Live May 17, 2026
Chrome Extension

Post overlay fixes, queue badge, and popup polish.

Added

  • Queue-count badge on the toolbar icon — shows how many threads are queued; auto-hides when empty and clears when you open the popup

Fixed

  • Post + button no longer flickers when moving the cursor from the post body toward it
  • Overlay now survives Reddit's client-side navigation — no page reload needed when clicking into a thread
  • Thin custom scrollbar in the popup replaces the chunky native scrollbar

v1.0.0

Live May 13, 2026
Chrome Extension

ThreadCast launches on the Chrome Web Store.

Added

  • Three on-device voice engines: System voices, AI neural CPU (28M-parameter model on WASM), AI neural GPU (82M-parameter model on WebGPU)
  • Multi-voice author assignment — FNV-1a hash maps each username to a consistent voice across every thread
  • Up to 11 voices rotating on the AI neural GPU engine; unlimited rotation on System voices
  • Per-author voice overrides — pin a specific voice to a specific user
  • Gender-aware voice matching
  • Voice preview — 3-sentence sample at your current rate, pitch, and pause settings
  • Reads post body and comments in thread order; comments-only mode included
  • Adjustable playback rate, pitch, and sentence-pause multiplier
  • Multi-thread queue with drag-to-reorder and auto-advance
  • Drag-to-seek scrubber within each segment
  • Sleep mode with 10 hand-picked ambient tracks and a fade-to-silence timer
  • Independent voice / ambient volume sliders and configurable sleep rate (default 0.85×)
  • Engine switcher with per-file model download progress
  • Engine-aware Settings — voice lists, overrides, and gender priority adapt to the selected engine
  • Public AI neural model mirror at huggingface.co/Pixel-Labs/threadcast-neural-models — one-time download, then fully offline
  • Dark mode and import / export settings as JSON
  • Works on reddit.com and old.reddit.com with full SPA navigation handling
