TIFU by leaving my AirPods in my pocket and washing them — twice in one week
This happened twice. TWICE. In the same week. I work from home and have been walking around the apartment with AirPods in basically all day, every day. They might as well be surgically implanted at this point.
The first time, I came back from doing laundry and noticed my pocket felt suspiciously empty. Reached into the dryer, opened the case — somehow they still worked. Miracle. Promised myself I'd be more careful, set up a rule: empty pockets, then start the wash. Foolproof.
Three days later, I do laundry again. Same routine. Hand into pocket as I empty it — no AirPods. They were sitting in the lint trap, in a small puddle of warm water, looking up at me with what I can only describe as genuine disappointment.
This time they did NOT survive. Left ear works at half volume, right ear plays everything pitched up an octave. I now sound like a chipmunk in every Zoom call I take. AppleCare doesn't cover stupidity, and at this point, neither do I.
